What is Tongkat Ali ?

Tongkat Ali is a tree native to Southeast Asian countries such as Malaysia, Thailand, and Indonesia.  The root of the tree contains compounds called quassinoids and alkaloids and is the part of the tree that is used medicinally.

In alternative medicine, Tongkat Ali is said to raise testosterone levels, promote muscle strength, and address a number of conditions such as erectile dysfunction, decreased libido, fatigue, and stress.

Other Features of Tongkat Ali

- It increased levels of luteinizing hormone in the plasma, which in turn increases testicular testosterone production.
- It shrinks the amount of your testosterone that is converted into estrogen. Too much of Estrogen in your blood and tissue can cause weight gain, loss of energy, and make difficult to add lean muscles to your body.
- It reduces cortisol, a type of stress hormone in the human body that slows down the immune system and lowers testosterone level in the process.
- It decreases your SHBG levels (sex hormone binding globulin)

Why should you consider Tongkat Ali ?

As men age, they tend to experience a condition related to reduced testosterone production called andropause which causes a number of serious problems. Conditions linked to andropause include lack of libido, reduced levels of energy, increased body fat and mental fatigue.

While Tongkat Ali is best known for its masculine benefits, it also has potential to treat several female issues.

Increases Testosterone

After age thirty, most men begin to experience a gradual decline in testosterone levels, if testosterone levels fall below 250 ng/dL this is diagnosed as low testosterone (Hypoandrogenism).  Tongkat Ali is commonly used by men suffering from Hypoandrogenism to increase the natural production of testosterone, reversing the symptoms of low testosterone.

For those who suffer from symptons of low testosterone, such as erectile dysfunction/low sex drive, fatigue or depression, using standardized Tongkat Ali root extract is an excellent way to help steadily increase your testosterone back up to a healthy level.

It can typically take from one to three weeks for a sufferer of Hypoandrogenism to fully feel the positive effects of Tongkat Ali.

Increases Muscle Mass and Strength

Tongkat Ali is a popular natural supplement among weightlifters and body builders who are looking to change their muscle to fat ratio. However, you don’t need to be a serious athlete to benefit from the potential improvements in body composition that Tongkat Ali can provide.

Because of the increase in testosterone that Tongkat Ali provides, it can also help to lose fat and gain lean body mass. This will have an even greater effect for those who engage in regular exercise.

Benefits for Bodybuilders include:

  • Increased muscle mass

  • Increased strength

  • Faster recoveries

  • Decreased body fat percentage

  • Improved Aggressiveness for Workouts

  • Higher Confidence

  • Increased Sex Drive

  • Positive effects on Diabetes

Anti-Aging

Since the driving factor of Tongkat Ali is to raise natural levels of testosterone in the body, the results all reverse aging signs and make one feel younger.  Anywhere from enhanced sexual health to better skin, Tongkat Ali has many anti-aging benefits.  Your body’s ability to go back to optimum testosterone levels will enable you to look younger with clearer skin, clearer eyes and an overall fresher feel.

Treats Erectile Dysfuntcion and Increases Libido

The main benefits of Tongkat Ali are related to enhancing libido, erections and fertility in men. Many of the sexual health benefits emerging from this powerful herb seem to also help reduce stress and anxiety around sex.

Increased Fertility, Increased Sperm Mobility

Tongkat Ali’s natural hormonal support benefits also promotes normal sperm quality.  Sperm quality, measured by volume, concentration, and motility, can impact male fertility.  By using Tongkat Ali supplements, males can increase their chances of reproducing by improving their overall sperm quality.

Anti-Stress

Recent research has revealed that Tongkat Ali could reduce the body’s production of the stress hormone – cortisol. The study published in 2013 was conducted on 32 male and 31 female volunteers with moderate stress symptoms.

They found that those in the Tongkat Ali group experienced significant improvements in tension, confusion and anger and concluded that tongkat Ali may be an effective remedy against modern day stress issues.  Reference to a research study on the effects of Tongkat Ali on stress is provided below as (Effect of Tongkat Ali on stress hormones…..).

Increased Energy

Particularly, if your body is suffering from a hormonal imbalance and is producing insufficient hormones, it can result in fatigue and lethargy.  Tongkat Ali is believed to help balance the hormones with the ability to increase energy levels and metabolism.  This may in turn help to control body weight and improve mood.

Benefits Specifically for Women

Raising testosterone by taking Tongkat Ali provides several benefits to women:

  • improved relief of vasomotor symptoms of menopause

  • increased energy levels

  • enhanced feelings of well-being

  • decreased breast tenderness

  • improves sexual desire

  • increased sexual sensitivity

  • increases the frequency of coitus

  • enhances orgasm

Weight Loss

Tongkat Ali, in sufficiently high dosage (about 500mg per day), can act as weight loss agent, especially in women.

This is a direct consequence of Tongkat Ali's power to raise testosterone levels.

Testosterone is also one of six hormones produced by the female reproductive organs.

Anti-Cancer Supplement

Tongkat Ali has also been studied as a possible cancer-fighting agent, as several of it’s chemical constituents have been shown to exert anti-cancer effects in studies.  One reference to such a study is provided below as (Tongkat Ali (Eurycoma longifolia): a possible therapeutic…..)

Promotes Skeletal Health

Low testosterone levels increases one’s chances of developing osteoporosis, a debilitating disease characterized by weak, fragile bones.

While Calcium, Vitamin D, and Magnesium all play a role in bone health, maintaining hormonal balance is key for regulating the health of the entire body.  Since Tongkat Ali encourages serum concentration of testosterone, it is believed that the herb may be a useful adjunct toward improving and maintaining superior bone health.  A reference to such a study is provided below as: ( aEurycoma longifolia upregulates…..)

Positive Effects on Diabetes

Maintaining proper blood sugar levels through diet and exercise is one of the best defenses against type II diabetes.  Research has confirmed that Tongkat Ali may contribute to this effort.  Reducing refined carbohydrates in the diet, increasing exercise, getting quality sleep, and sunlight exposure are also extremely helpful ways to maintain balanced blood sugar levels.  There is some reference to this effect in a research study referred to below as: (Tongkat Ali (Eurycoma longifolia….).
